How to care for bamboo
To keep your plant healthy and in good condition for as long as possible, here are some bamboo care tips:
- Cleaning the vase: Clean the vase every few weeks, taking care to put new water in the vase once a week to avoid algae formation.
- Place it in the right place: Bamboo is a great indoor plant because it can tolerate light shade and indirect sunlight. However, your plant will grow larger when exposed to bright light. This doesn’t mean you should put your plant in direct sunlight, but keeping it in a bright room can increase its lifespan and improve its health.
- Water Filtering : Bamboo can be grown in soil or water. If you are growing bamboo in water, filtered or distilled water is the best option to keep the bamboo roots moist and healthy. Tap water can contain substances that are harmful to health, so it is best to use clean, clear water when putting it in a bamboo vase.
- Choosing the right vase: When you buy a bamboo plant, it usually comes in its own pot, often on top of stones. If the bamboo grows out of its original pot, you may need to move it to a larger pot so it can grow further. When transplanting bamboo to a new pot, care must be taken when transplanting it. It is important to remove the stones smoothly and wash them before transferring it to the new pot. Then, place the bamboo in its new pot, gently reburying the roots under the stones to ensure they are completely covered. Keep the water level high enough to cover the roots, but not so high that it wets the bamboo stems.
